Super Cooper Heart Run- Houma 2010

A Super Race Indeed!

A Super Race Indeed!

Our 4th annual race in Houma was March 27 at The Workout Co. The weather was nearly perfect – sunny and cool with a stiff breeze to add to the level of difficulty. This year's race marked our best event with the most participants ever...150 Male 5K participants, 227 Female 5K participants and 96 1-Mile participants totaling 473 racers! We had nearly 550 people on site, including our volunteers and spectators.
Congrats to our Overall Female Runners: 1st Keri Miller (21:17), 2nd Christina Hubbell (21:20) and 3rd Raquel Gros (22:54). And congrats to our Overall Male Runners: 1st Tyler Verret (19:07), 2nd Raylan Alleman (19:19) and 3rd Josh Chauvin (19:26). All 5K race results can be viewed by clicking the above links.

With your participation in this event and with the personal and corporate sponsorships, Cooper Life Fund has raised $11,000 in proceeds which will go directly to provide support to families whose newborn infants are admitted into the TGMC Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). These proceeds will provide medical and social care to the infants and families of infants admitted to the TGMC-NICU after being born with serious medical conditions. This fund allows families to focus on the wellness of their child without having to worry about how they might afford the immediate necessities of caring for a sick baby. The money provides families with gas cards, phone cards, car seats, strollers, lodging vouchers and other items that these families have not prepared for while their baby is in intensive care. Extra special thanks goes out to PeDot who provided great music and fun with his Party Wit PeDot DJ Services (985-414-1772), Jeremy Bergeron and Cecil Ivy with the local National Guard Unit for bringing out the Rock Wall and plenty of giveaways, Lt. Mark Arceneaux & Mickey Hines who cooked some fabulous Jambalaya (ingredients provided by the local Cops Who Care), Shea & Errol Bourgeois who provided some great Pinocchio’s Pizza Playhouse food and provided help with the kids face painting, Billy Simmons with Buquet Distributing and Chad Hebert with Safety & Training Consultants who provided post-race beverages, Stephanie Lirette for making Cotton Candy in very windy conditions (she was covered in blue sugar by 10 a.m.), Brooke’s Sno-N-Go for providing Sno-Balls on site, Marshall with A Kool Kids Party Rental (www.akoolkidzparty.com) for providing a Bounce House for the kids to play on, TGMC & Dalton Leblanc State Farm for providing much needed tents on site, the Bayou Runners Association (BRASS) for timing and scoring our race (www.bayourunners.com) , to the State, City and Parish Law Enforcement Officers who kept our runners safe along the route, to the Terrebonne Parish Shriners for assisting our law enforcement, to all the AWESOME VOLUNTEERS who helped to assure the race and festivities flowed smoothly, and to Mary Beth Clark and all of the fine staff at The Workout Co. (www.theworkoutco.us) for hosting our race. Of course, I cannot forget our very special guests who helped to inspire many of our racers to push themselves all the way to the finish line, Abby Rike (www.abbyrike.com) & Vicky Vilcan from The Biggest Loser. As an added bonus, we also had Vicky’s husband Brady Vilcan with us. A very special thank you to Abby, Vicky and Brady for taking time out of their schedule to come out and help to promote the Super Cooper Heart Run as well as dedicating time to the participants by taking photos and visiting with so many people. Thank You!

Please take a moment to recognize our corporate sponsors and be sure to stop by their place of business and thank them for their role in helping The Super Cooper Heart Run to be a fun and successful race.

Ashley, Remy Cooper and I cannot thank all of you enough for your tremendous support. We look forward to seeing you at next year’s Houma race….and we may even see some of you at the November 6th Lafayette Super Cooper race!

In our continuing effort to help others with a healthier lifestyle, we are honored to announce that Houma’s very own Abby Rike & Vicky Vilcan, from The Biggest Loser, will be participating in this year’s event. **Check out Abby's New Website ** Abby & Vicky will be on hand before and after the race to meet everyone and answer questions, sign autographs and take photos. They are a huge driving force within our community for promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging our community’s young and old to get up and get in shape. They are living proof that anyone can get in shape and they will be here to pay it forward and encourage everyone to take the next step in becoming active. So come out and run a race with Abby & Vicky!

Contributions

For those of you wishing to make a contribution or becoming a sponsor, please print a Contribution Form. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. Donations are 100% tax deductible as we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. After the race you will receive a donation receipt from the Cooper Life Fund with your contribution amount which is used for your tax filing purposes. The closing date to confirm corporate sponsorship to ensure a logo spot for race t-shirts is March 13. Personal contributions are accepted year round. We thank you in advance for yoru support.

Challenge

We at Cooper Life Fund challenge each of you to not only sign up and run or walk (or both) this 5K race, but to also encourage a member of the younger generation to join you. So sign yourself and a young one up. He or she can be of any age, but you must commit to helping that person in training for this race. They cannot do it alone...your help is needed.

(Current data shows that not only are the vast majority of adults overweight, but 34 percent are obese. And on top of that 17 percent of children are obese. Let's do our part to get active and get fit. But let's not forget about the young ones. There is a 1-mile race and a 5K race - pick one to complete and begin the rest of your active lives.)

We look forward to seeing you all on the morning of the race!
