Simon and Daisy Alviar are Houma residents of 18+ years, and are a big part of our community. Daisy is the founder and current Director at Stella Learning Center (http://stellalc.com/) here in Houma where she and the staff works with students with autism and related disorders. Simon works within the oil & gas industry for MISwaco. Their older boys are graduates of Central LaFourche High School...and they have a 14 year old daughter.

In November of 2015, Simon and Daisy's grandson, Nathaniel, was born with a condition called Zellwegers Syndrome, which is the most severe case of peroximal disorders. It is said through research that most cases of infants will pass within the year, but it could be longer or shorter. About 50% only make it to 6 months. Nathaniel just recently turned 6 months old on May 12.

Sgt. Christopher Garcia, Nathaniel's father, is an active member of our military (USAF) stationed in Georgia. Alexis, Nathaniel's mom is also military, as she is a veteran of the USAF. As an active member of our Armed Forces, medical care is provided for Nathaniel. However, the necessary support that also comes with hospital visits is sometimes difficult to bear. Being stationed in Georgia makes it very difficult for Simon and Daisy to visit their grandson and to offer their help.

That is where we come in. All proceeds from the 2nd Edition of the Strong Heart Trail Trot will assist Nathaniel's grandparents and other family members to visit him in Georgia this summer. With your help, we can bring the family together for a memorable summer.
